THOM KROM M TS 985 T-Shirt - Black Dual-Shell Cotton Modal Elastane Worked Knit Men's German

Regular price €163.55 EUR

Two Fabrics, One Black. The Construction Is in the Feel.

The THOM KROM M TS 985 in black is a dual-shell worked knit t-shirt: Shell 1 in 95% cotton, 5% elastane; Shell 2 in 47% cotton, 47% modal, 6% elastane. In black, the two shells read as the same colour — unlike the cold dye grey version where the tonal difference between shells reveals the panel geometry, the black reads as a single deep surface across the entire garment. The dual-shell construction is present, but expressed through feel rather than sight: Shell 1's cotton directness at the primary panels, Shell 2's modal-enriched softness and density at the secondary panels. A black t-shirt where the complexity is underneath the surface. German design. Turkish manufacture.

Why This T-Shirt Is Different

  • Shell 1 — 95% Cotton, 5% Elastane: The primary panels in the purest cotton-elastane worked knit in the THOM KROM range — natural breathability, direct cotton hand-feel, and full-garment stretch recovery with the minimum elastane required for consistent shape retention
  • Shell 2 — 47% Cotton, 47% Modal, 6% Elastane: The secondary panels in an equal-weight cotton-modal blend with 6% elastane — modal adds a denser, softer hand-feel and a slight surface sheen that you feel rather than see in black; the 6% elastane — the highest concentration in any THOM KROM panel across the t-shirt range — provides maximum movement recovery in the high-flex zones
  • Black on two fabrics: Cotton and modal accept black dye at similar rates but with different surface character; in black, the modal content in Shell 2 produces a slightly denser, quieter black than the cotton-dominant Shell 1, a difference that is perceptible under close examination or in specific light conditions but reads as a single cohesive black in normal wear
  • Dual-shell worked knit t-shirt: Panel differentiation applied to the t-shirt category — the same construction logic as the THOM KROM jacket and trouser range, at the most foundational layer
  • Worked / gewirkt construction: Loop-built fabric at every panel — the knit loop structure provides inherent mechanical stretch amplified by both shells' elastane content, and a surface texture in black that reads as a subtle micro-pattern rather than a flat plane
  • German design: THOM KROM precision in fabric placement applied to a t-shirt where the construction is known to the wearer rather than visible to the observer
  • No logos: The black, the worked knit surface, and the dual-shell construction carry the identity
  • Unlike the M TS 960 black (single 95/5 cotton-elastane fabric throughout) and the M TS 978 black (viscose Shell 1, modal-cotton Shell 2, cotton rib — with viscose's surface lustre as the visible differentiator), the M TS 985 black places two cotton-dominant fabrics in conversation — a t-shirt where sophistication is in the material intelligence, not the surface statement

The Moment You Put It On

The black reads as one across the entire t-shirt. But the two panels feel different. Shell 1's cotton is direct — breathable, familiar, the matte warmth of 95% natural fibre. Shell 2's modal adds density at the secondary panels: a softer weight, a slightly different texture under the hand, a panel that sits differently against the body than the cotton-dominant primary. The two shells move together — both elastane-blended, both worked knit — but they offer two distinct material experiences within a single garment.

This is the t-shirt for those who understand that the most considered design decisions are the ones that cannot be seen.

The Art of Modal in Worked Knit Black

Modal in black worked knit presents a specific optical and tactile profile. Modal is a beechwood-derived regenerated cellulose fibre, more refined in its processing than viscose and more consistent in its fibre diameter than cotton. In black, modal's smoother fibre surface produces a slightly denser light absorption than cotton at the same weight — the black reads as quieter, deeper, more uniform under the modal-cotton blend than under cotton alone. This is not a dramatic difference, but in the worked knit loop structure it is perceptible: the Shell 2 panels of the M TS 985 black carry a different quality of black from the Shell 1 panels, visible under controlled lighting or close examination. In tactile terms, the modal content in Shell 2 adds a softness that cotton at 95% does not produce — the modal fibre's smooth cross-section creates less surface friction against skin, and the 47% concentration is high enough to define the hand-feel of the shell while the 47% cotton maintains the natural breathability that a 100% modal construction would compromise. The 6% elastane in Shell 2 provides the highest movement recovery of any THOM KROM panel in the t-shirt range. The result is a secondary panel specification that performs differently from the primary panel at the feel, recovery, and optical levels — in a black t-shirt where none of this is visible to anyone who does not wear it.

How to Wear It

  • As a standalone piece year-round: The black reads as a complete statement; the dual-shell construction provides material depth that a single-fabric black t-shirt cannot offer; the modal panels reward examination without requiring it
  • As a base layer under the THOM KROM jacket range: The dual-shell compresses cleanly under any outer layer; the 5% and 6% elastane in the two shells accommodate combined compression without restricting movement; the t-shirt that performs as a base layer and stands as a complete piece
  • With the M ST 537 black trousers: A full cotton-dominant worked knit construction from t-shirt to trouser — the M TS 985's dual-shell construction at the top, the M ST 537's dual-shell construction at the bottom, a consistent construction logic throughout
  • Alongside the M TS 985 cold dye grey: The same dual-shell construction in the same model, one in black and one in cold dye grey — the black version for when the construction is private, the cold dye grey for when the construction is visible

Care Instructions

  • Machine wash cold, gentle cycle — cold water preserves both the cotton and modal black dye depth; avoid warm or hot water that accelerates colour loss in cotton-dominant and modal fabrics
  • Wash inside out to protect both shell surfaces and preserve black depth at the loop crowns
  • Do not tumble dry on high heat — lay flat to dry or tumble dry on low; high heat degrades the elastane recovery in both shells over repeated cycles
  • Do not bleach
  • Low steam iron if needed — press from inside with a cloth barrier; avoid direct high heat on either elastane-blend shell
  • Store folded to maintain the worked knit structure over time
