3B M1327 Trousers - Black Oversized Coated Gabardine Stretch Cotton Italian Men's
Gabardine With a Skin on It
Gabardine was engineered a century ago to keep weather out. Laminate it, cut it oversized, and close it with cords and buttons instead of a zip, and you get this: a trouser with the density of technical outerwear and the volume of something you would wear to do nothing at all. The coated face reads matte and dark, the stretch underneath means the size never becomes a burden. LA HAINE INSIDE US, Italian avant-garde, Made In Italy.
Why These Trousers Are Different
- Laminated coating: a bonded surface finish over the gabardine, giving a dense matte black rather than a plastic shine.
- Gabardine base: a tightly woven twill built for weather resistance, which holds an oversized line where looser cloth would sag.
- Oversized cut: deliberate volume through seat and thigh, meant to be worn roomy rather than sized up.
- Drawstring and button closure: cords and buttons at the front instead of a zip, so there is no metal hardware on the silhouette.
- Cord and button hem: the same detail at the leg opening, letting you cinch the ankle or leave it wide.
- Two silhouettes in one: gathered at the hem it goes tapered and militant, released it falls in a straight heavy column.
- Elastic waist: where a rigid band fights an oversized cut, this gives and settles back.
- Stretch cotton: 97% cotton with 3% elastane, breathable on the reverse and quick to recover at the knee.
- Weather-resistant surface: the coated face sheds light rain that untreated cotton would soak straight up.
- Made In Italy: cut and constructed in Italy.

Cut oversized, with a wide waist range thanks to the elastic waist and the stretch in the cotton. Take your usual size for the intended volume.
The Moment You Put Them On
They feel substantial before they feel comfortable, and then both at once. The coated face is cool and smooth going on, the gabardine has real body to it, and then the elastic waist takes over and the weight stops registering. Tie the cords, fasten the buttons, and there is not a single piece of metal anywhere on you.
Walk and the volume holds its shape rather than flapping, which is what the tight gabardine weave is doing under the coating. Under streetlight the surface goes deep and waxed; in daylight it settles flat and matte. Cinch the hems over boots and the whole thing sharpens; let them out and it becomes a heavy black column to the floor.
The Art of Coated Gabardine
Gabardine is a steep twill woven so tightly that it resists wind and water on its own, which is why it built the original trench coat. Bonding a laminate to its face pushes that further: the outside becomes a technical shell, dense and rain-shedding, while the reverse stays ordinary breathable cotton against the leg. That asymmetry is the point, and it is why this wears nothing like a fully synthetic trouser that traps heat on both faces. The coating also stiffens the hand just enough that an oversized pattern stands up instead of collapsing.
The Art of Cord and Button Fastening
Replacing a zip with cords and buttons is a deliberate downgrade in convenience and an upgrade in everything else. There is no metal to catch light, no hardware to interrupt a coated surface, and nothing to fail mechanically years in. Repeating the same detail at the hem gives you control over the leg opening, so a single pair moves between a wide straight fall and a gathered taper. Where a standard cargo locks you into one proportion, this hands you the dial.
How to Wear Them
- Full volume daytime: hems released, with a boxy top and chunky sneakers, the coated black reading as texture.
- Gathered and sharp: hems cinched over tall boots with a fitted knit, for a tapered evening line.
- Layered winter: under a long coat, the gabardine body keeping the leg from collapsing under all that fabric.
- Wet-weather city: with trainers and a shell jacket, the coated face shrugging off drizzle.
Care Instructions
- Do not iron: heat will melt or permanently dull the coated surface.
- Hand wash cold, inside out, or dry clean with the coating flagged to the cleaner.
- Do not tumble dry: heat damages both the coating and the elastane.
- Wipe surface marks with a damp cloth rather than washing the whole garment.
- Hang to dry away from direct heat and sunlight.
- Do not bleach, and avoid fabric softener, which breaks down the finish.
- Store hanging and unfolded so the coating does not crease into permanent lines.
