The fabric absorbs subsequent treatments more unevenly after this process, which is exactly what THOM KROM exploits in the second stage: spray dyeing, which applies colour in an aerosol or directed-jet process across the surface of the already-distressed knit. The spray deposits unevenly, settling more heavily in the surface irregularities created by the stone wash and less on the smoother areas.
