• Vegetable-Tanned Leather: Vegetable tanning is an ancient process that uses natural tannins — extracted from tree bark, leaves, and fruits — to convert raw hide into leather. Unlike chrome tanning (the dominant industrial process, which uses chromium salts and takes hours), vegetable tanning takes weeks and produces a leather that is firmer, more structured, and fundamentally different in how it ages. Vegetable-tanned leather develops a patina over time — the leather darkening and softening at points of contact and wear, the surface becoming uniquely marked by the life of the person wearing it.
